To mark International Women’s Day, ITSector joined the global celebration of women’s achievements while reaffirming its commitment to diversity and equity. As part of the occasion, on March 6, we organised a community initiative designed to introduce young girls to the world of technology and highlight the many career paths it can offer.

As part of this initiative, two of our experts, Célia Ramos and Marisa Ortega, visited Lar S. Francisco in Bragança, where they were welcomed by a group of young girls eager to learn more about the role of women in technology. The conversation focused on breaking down stereotypes and showing that a career in this field can take many forms, with room for creativity, curiosity and continuous growth.

Throughout the session, they shared their professional journeys and reflected on the different roles women hold at ITSector, illustrating how diverse skills and backgrounds contribute to the development of digital solutions. From technical roles to project management and innovation-driven positions, the discussion offered a broader perspective on what working in this industry can look like today.

Célia Ramos, Project Manager at ITSector, reflected on the broader importance of promoting equality and challenging preconceived notions about gender in the sector: “In an increasingly polarised world, it is vital to reinforce that in technology, as in life, gender should never be the starting point nor the limit. A better future depends on our ability to make competence the only universal language - one where talent always prevails over prejudice.”

Another key message shared during the session was that journeys in this field are rarely linear. The participants were encouraged to remain open to learning, experimentation and change, reinforcing the idea that dedication, resilience and ambition can open the door to countless possibilities.

Reflecting on the experience, Marisa Ortega, IS Senior Consultant at ITSector, highlighted the importance of creating spaces where young girls can envision themselves working in this field: “For me, International Women’s Day is a moment to reflect on the progress we’ve made and on everything we can still build. Speaking with these young girls and showing them that technology is a space where they can dream, learn and grow was truly rewarding. Technology needs diverse perspectives, creativity and talent - and women have a fundamental role in shaping that future.”

For many of the young girls present, the session provided a first glimpse into a professional landscape that may once have seemed distant. Through an open conversation, Célia and Marisa aimed to show that technology is a space where they too can imagine a future for themselves.

Initiatives like this reflect ITSector’s ongoing commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion and equal opportunities. By connecting with younger generations and sharing real stories from within the industry, we hope to inspire more girls to consider careers in technology and to recognise their ideas and perspectives as an essential part of shaping tomorrow’s innovations.
